Sycamore School is Spell Bowl state champs! The Sycamore 4th and 5th grade Spell Bowl team earned a tie for the state championship, competing at Southport in November. Spelling 54 of 56 words correctly, they tied for the top honor with Valparaiso's Washington Township Elementary.
According the coach Deb Stewart, "There are over 100 teams that competed in this division, so this is quite an accomplishment," she said. "Over the course of the past three months, the team of 16 met at 7:15am once to twice a week in order to practice the 750 words on the original Spell Bowl list." The team and Coach Stewart would like to thank Lillian Tabor and Mrs. McKay for helping with the scoring process during the competition and Mrs. Lykens and all of the parents for supporting us throughout the season and cheering us on as we competed.
