After a two-month layoff from competition, Sycamore's three VEX IQ teams competed at the 29-team Crawfordsville State Qualifying tournament on Saturday.
Sycamore's 6th grade team dominated the Skills division and improved from 23rd ranked in the State to 4th after a successful competition. Also, they had a great final round and finished in 2nd in the Alliance competition. With two weeks left in the regular season, their combined Skills score ranks as the 26th highest in the world!
The 7th grade team also had a very strong day by finishing 2nd in Skills, which moved them from 43rd ranked in the state to 6th. They jumped over 700+ teams to now have the 53rd highest score in the world. In addition, they were in 1st or 2nd in Alliance all day, but were unfortunate in the final round with a mishap by the team they were working with, but still finished 4th by rallying in the last few seconds.
Playing in the same division as Sycamore's two other teams, the 5th grade team was very competitive all day and had a strong 8th place finish in Skills and 6th in Alliance. Their teamwork skills and understanding of their strengths and weaknesses was very clear as they posted two of the top 5 Alliance scores during the 10-round qualifications.
The three teams will next compete in the State Finals competition at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, March 10.
